Elke Winter is a tenured professor of Sociology at the University of Ottawa, and research director at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Citizenship and Minorities (CIRCEM). An alumna of the German National Merit Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), Professor Winter is also the recipient of the Canadian Sociology Association’s John Porter Best Book of the Year Award (for Us, Them, and Others: Pluralism and National Identity in Diverse Societies, University of Toronto Press, 2011) and a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists, one of the highest honours for scholars in Canada.
