Joseph Lacey is Assistant Professor of Political Theory at the School of Politics and International Relations, University College Dublin. He has worked or studied at the University of Oxford, the European University Institute, Princeton University and the University of Leuven. His recent work focuses on democratic theory, political institutions and comparative European politics. These themes are explored in his book Centripetal Democracy: Democratic Legitimacy and Political Identity in Belgium, Switzerland and the European Union (2017, Oxford University Press). This monograph won the 2018 Brian Farrell Prize for best book in political science, awarded annually by the Political Studies Association of Ireland.
