Alexi Gugushvili is researcher at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the European University Institute. He holds MSc in Policy Studies from the University of Edinburgh and has been Hansard Research Scholar at the London School of Economics. Before joining the EUI, Alexi worked for various governmental and civil society organisations and taught courses in social policy and econometrics in several universities in Georgia. Using quantitative and qualitative methods, his current research interests and publications deal with welfare perceptions, emigration intentions, public policies and social stratification in the less developed transitional societies. Originally being from Sokhumi, Abkhazia, a disputed region on the Black Sea coast, Alexi is also interested in the issues of ethnicity, nationality and citizenship.
