The Austrian Parliament’s Home Affairs Committee held a public expert hearing on the government’s proposed amendment to the citizenship law.
EUDO CITIZENSHIP co-director Rainer Bauböck was invited to testify as expert and present the results of the ACIT project for Austria. The government proposal is likely to be adopted by the first chamber of Parliament (Nationalrat) on 27 June.

In a parallel development, a debate has broken out between members of the Austrian Green Party after two MPs (Efgani Dönmez and Peter Pilz) suggested that supporters of Turkish Prime Minister Erdogan, who recently demonstrated in Vienna, could be sent back to Turkey (Dönmez) or banned from naturalisation on grounds of lack of support for the democratic principles of the Austrian Republic (Pilz).
