In a referendum held on Sunday 7 June, well over 70 percent of Luxembourg voters voted cast a ballot against granting the right to vote in national and local elections to foreign residents. Had the vote been carried,Luxembourg would have become the first in the EU to grant foreign-born residents the right to vote in all elections.
