Elisa Brey is a professor at the School of Communication of the University Complutense of Madrid (UCM), where she teaches sociology, public opinion and political communication. At UCM, she is a member of the Group for Studies on International Migration (GEMI). At the University of Liège, she is a scientific associated with the Center for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM). And she is a member of the asesor committee of the Chair of Refugees and Forced Migrants at the University Institute of Migration Studies at Comillas Pontifical University.

She was a visiting researcher at Warwick University in 2007, the Universidad Alberto Hurtado of Chile, in 2012, and the Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México in 2018. She obtained her PhD (2016), at both UCM and University of Liège. Her work introduced a typology on the experiences of migrants in the metropolitan region of Madrid, considering their access to regular documentation, work and housing, in times of economic crisis.
