We are delighted to announce the appointment of Ashley Mantha-Hollands as GLOBALCIT Coordinator and Research Fellow at the Robert Schuman Center for Advanced Studies, European University Institute. Ashley will take over the expert network coordination and other management tasks from Jelena Džankić, who will remain GLOBALCIT Co-Director.
Ashley is a longstanding GLOBALCIT collaborator and Senior Research Associate. She holds a PhD in Political Science from Humboldt University in Berlin. In 2020, her doctoral dissertation was recognised by the Social Science and Humanities Research Council of Canada award. Ashley’s work has appeared in the Journal of Ethnic and Migration Studies, the International Journal of Constitutional Law, and the William and Mary Bill of Rights Journal. She has teaching experience on topics related to citizenship, political participation, and migration. Her research broadly focuses on comparative citizenship law, political theory, and feminist philosophy. Previously a Max Weber Fellow at the EUI (2023-2025), Ashley has been working on a project analysing biomedical laws, policy establishing parentage, and citizenship status acquisition for children born from alternative reproductive technologies.
We look forward to working with Ashley in the coming years, consolidating our global expert network and strengthening GLOBALCIT’s reputation as the go-to place for fact-based and non-partisan analysis of citizenship laws and electoral rights around the world.
Jo, Rainer and Maarten want to warmly thank Jelena for her steadfast leadership over the past years, initially as GLOBALCIT Coordinator and Research Fellow (2011-2020) and since 2020 as Co-Director and Part-Time Professor at the EUI. We look forward to continuing to steer the Global Citizenship Observatory with her in the coming years.
