Migration und Demokratie

The goal of this book is to introduce the reader to the relationship between migration and democracy. At the beginning we discuss whether access and political rights for migrants in liberal democracies are implemented by default, or whether these must be fought for. Then we look at the issue of democratic deficit in destination countries, especially  in the Federal Republic of Germany, regarding immigration and illustrate this through the concept of political multiculturalism. Then explore the questions of citizenship and voting rights. After discussing statelessness and dual citizenship, we conclude by looking at questions of transnational political participation of migrants and refugees and their potential for democratising states, regional and global institutions.
