On 1 March 2016 the Dutch Senate accepted a bill that broadens the power of the Minster of Justice to withdraw Dutch citizenship from a person who has been convicted for facilitating a terrorist crime, unless this would render the person stateless. Concretely, a conviction pursuant to Article 134a of the Dutch Penal Code (in Dutch) has become an additional ground for loss under Article 14(2)b of the Dutch Citizenship Act. A more far-reaching bill 34356 (R2064) (in Dutch) providing for the possibility of withdrawing Dutch citizenship from a person who voluntarily joins a terrorist organisation and without the need for a prior criminal conviction is still pending.
