Proposed changes to the Canada Citizenship Act

The Canadian House of Commons is deliberating the proposal to amend the country’s Citizenship Act, thus facilitating naturalisation for foreign residents by reducing the residence condition from four to three years, repealing the ‘intent to reside’ provision, physical residence requirement of 183 days annually, and relaxing the age range for language and knowledge. In addition to this, the proposed amendment would repeal the provisions that allow the revocation on grounds of national interest, introduced in May 2015.
