Joachim Stern studied Law at the Universities of Paris V (Maîtrise en droit européen et international 2003), Stockholm, and Vienna (Magister iuris 2005), where he also defended his PhD on ‘Access to Justice and the Right to Legal Aid for Asylum Seekers’ (Doctor iuris 2011).
From 2006 to 2011 he has been working as a researcher and lecturer at the Institute for Public and Administrative Law of the University of Vienna with a focus on Migration Law, European Law and Human Rights.
He is co-organiser of the “New International Constitutional Law and Administrative Studies Summer School – NICLAS” and has been holding various expert positions, among other with UNHCR and different NGOs.
Recent publications include articles on “Ius Pecuniae” – the right to citizenship for the poor, and “Ius Immaculationis” – exclusions from citizenship due to criminal past, ‘threat-prognosis’ and ‘suspicious facts’.
