Joachim Blatter is Professor of Political Science at the University of Lucerne (CH). He wrote his dissertation on political institution building in cross-border regions in Europe and North America (2000) and his habilitation on the the historical transformations of paradigms and realities of political governance (2006). Recently, his research focusses on the current “second transformation of democracy” – the adjustments of democratic theory and practice to multi-level governance, to multiple affiliations/migration, and to multi-media systems. His most recent work is “Dual Citizenship and Theories of Democracy” forthcoming in Citizenship Studies (2010).
