Since 2014, David de Groot has been a PhD researcher at the University of Bern (CH) within the National Center of Competence in Research (NCCR) – on the move). Since 2018, de Groot is part of the EU-CITZEN Network as an independent consultant.
His research deals with the recognition of civil status. His main areas of interest are nationality and citizenship, private international law, European law, migration law and family law.
De Groot graduated at Maastricht University, where he earned a LL.B. and LL.M., specialising in comparative and European Law. He is also a graduate from the Beijing Language and Culture University (北京语言大学) where he studied Mandarin.
