Imke is associate professor of political science at the University of Amsterdam. She holds a PhD from Leiden University and has been a visiting fellow at the Center for US-Mexican Studies at the University of California, San Diego. Her research focuses on subnational political institutions, state capacity, citizenship and democracy. She has recently started a new project on legal identity and the politics of civil registration.
