Anna Meine is postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Social Sciences at the University of Siegen, Germany. She works in the fields of democratic theory and international political theory and her research focuses on questions of democratic institution-building in and beyond the state, more particularly on issues of legitimacy, democratic self-determination and citizenship, and political independence. In her doctoral dissertation Komplementäre Bürgerschaften. Demokratische Selbstbestimmung in transnationalen Ordnungen (Nomos, 2017), which she wrote at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, she discusses possibilities and challenges of multiple complementary citizenships in and beyond the state and she has also published on “Debating legitimacy transnationally” (2016) in Global Discourse.
