Luicy is a full-time researcher at the Institute of Latin American Studies (ILAS) of the German Institute of Global and Regional Studies (GIGA). Her doctoral and post-doctoral research has focused on the dilemmas of liberal democracies regarding the political integration of migrants (both emigrants and immigrants). From the GIGA office in Berlin, Luicy Pedroza currently leads a research team in a project entitled “Every immigrant is an emigrant: How migration policies regulate the roads to integration (IMISEM)” that will compare migration policies of 30 countries across three continents, seeking to understand how polities distribute the rights of mobility, residence and citizenship to their immigrants and emigrants.
