Since October 2003 Nuno Piçarra is professor of EU Law at the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, at the Centro de Estudos Judiciários and at the Instituto Superior de Ciências Policiais e Segurança Interna; former professor of the European Institute of the Saarland University, Germany.
He is the Portuguese member of the Network on Free Movement of Persons within the EU, coordinated by the Neijmegen University, Holland, and the Portuguese member of the Academic Network for Legal Studies on Immigration and Asylum in Europe, coordinated by the Free University of Brussels.
From 1989 to 1995, he was legal secretary in the Court of the First Instance of the European Communities.
From 1996 to 2000, he was the National Coordinator for the Matters related to the Free Movement of Persons in the European Union and the Portuguese representative to the Committee K4 and to the Central Working Party of Schengen.
His research main research interests are in the EU Area of Freedom Security and Justice and in Constitutional Law.
