Born in Montreal with postgraduate degrees from British and Polish universities, Raymond Taras has authored or edited over a dozen books–on the collapse of the USSR, the rise of liberal and illiberal nationalisms, the internationalization of ethnic conflicts, and the menace of xenophobia in Europe. His visiting appointments have included Stanford, Harvard, Aalborg, and currently the European University Institute.
