Alexander H. Trechsel is Professor of political science and the first full-time holder of the Swiss chair in Federalism and Democracy at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. He completed his academic education at the Universities of Geneva, Michigan, Essex, Oslo and at the European University Institute. Prof. Trechsel initiated and coordinates the new European Union Democracy Observatory (EUDO) at the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies of the EUI. His research interests include e-democracy, direct democracy, federalism, European integration and political behaviour.
