Professor Jo Shaw’s new book The People in Question examines what can be learned about citizenship from a constitutional perspective. In a time of rising populism and heated debates about migration, it draws on examples from around the world to assess the relationship between citizenship policy and constitutional law in a transnational perspective.
On 8 October 2020, Jo Shaw presented the book at the WZB Berlin Social Science Center. Together with other distinguished scholars – Dieter Gosewinkel, Kriszta Kovács, Michael Riegner, Ayelet Shachar, Rogers Smith, and Daniel Thym – she explored the interaction between constitutions and citizenship and their nexus with to stories of peoplehood, collective identities, and borders and boundaries.
